February 2015

February 19

The meeting was called to order by Pres. Bill Dunlevy 7:00 after our monthly potluck.  31 attended.

Minutes and Tres. Reports were read and approved as read.

Old Business – Ice Fishing Jamboree – Six members attended on Sat.  It was -20 degrees with the wind chill.  Fishing was good, but few children wanted to stay out and detect for coins.  Saturday the crew stopped   and on Sunday they went back to clean up the hidden coins.  Snow cover was also a problem.  The wind was so strong the tents blew away.

New Business – Bill has received calls from outside about summer trips.  Rental equipment is often requested.  Madonna in Fairbanks does rent.  One member requested use of a high-banker.

Bill reported the next outing will be memorial Day at Crow Creek Mine.  This is usually a four day affair.

Program – Brian Webber showed his DVD (with music) covering the mining trip to Chesana last summer.                                                                                                      Next month Dick Griffith will be our guest.  He has hiked all over Alaska and is a published author.

Announcements –  There is a sign-up sheet for volunteers at the Boat Show.  Gold has been purchased and donated for the panning tubs.

May – Outdoor week.  BLM sponsors 6th graders the 12-15 from 9-1:30.  Tubs and gold will be provided by BLM. Sign-up sheets are available.  This is a four day affair.

The Gem and Mineral Society has a Taylor Highway trip this summer.  They will have a show during Rondy at the Northway Mall the last weekend in February.

K.C. had questions about avalanches at Bullion Mt. in Hatcher Pass.

Meeting adjourned at 7:40

Respectfully submitted by Sec. Bonnie Tisler.
