January 2011

January 20, 2011

The meeting was called to order by President Tom Ireland at 7:00 after our monthly potluck.  51 attended, 3 were returning members and 8 were new members.

Minutes and Tres. Report were read and approved.

Old Business –Gold Show – The site was discussed.  Members would like it to be the Crow Creek Mine this year.  Dates were discussed.  We would like it to be June 18-19, Father’s Day weekend.  We will contact the Mine for availability.  Bill Dunlevy recommended 14 screen gold for salting the bags.  We would get 200 bags/oz.  Bill will talk to Oxford and the Alaska Mint about prize donations for this year’s show.  Door prizes and the salted bags have helped sell drawing tickets.  All members need to solicit prizes.  Booth spaces will be $100/day.  Government agencies have funds in their budgets for events like this. We would like to have a food vendor.  Bill Bear will solicit radio interviews and announcements.  Bonnie Tisler asked all to think about the major prize.  A trip prize sold several tickets last time.

Ice Fishing Jamboree – Several members helped with the metal detecting at the event.  They donated the coins for the hunt.  Chapter petty cash also provided some coins.  Fishing was poor and the kids really enjoyed the detecting.  Loosening the snow was a difficult task this year.  Someone suggested we might use a rototiller.

Bobby Little asked about the mining opportunity near Tok.  Bill Dunlevy said the claim owner will be back to Alaska in April and we would learn more then.

Dale Pokorney’s box was sent to the family and they really appreciated our efforts.

Chicken trip – members were urged to make your own reservations asap with the Chicken Gold Camp.  New electrical hookups are now available on the upper parking lot.  A sign up sheet was circulated

New Business – Bonnie Tisler acknowledged a donation of rock art for our drawing.  Steve Geisking donated a rock hammer.

Bill Dunlevy suggested we make sight buckets now so the sealant can cure.

Tom Ireland announced that nominations for officers for next year will be in March with a vote in April.

Announcements – Bill Dunlevy attended the small miner’s meeting of the AMA and learned that dredge permits for an 8” and above are required.  4-6” are not required.

The AMA Journal had an article about our Gold Show.

Respectfully submitted by Bonnie Tisler, Sec. Tres.
