May Minutes

May 21, 2009

The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Bill Dunlevy at 7:00.  47 members attended, 12 are new. Minutes and Tres. Reports were read and approved.

Old Business –Gold Show – Fliers, vendor letters and donor forms were available for members to use.  Posting should be done in May and June. Bill requested each member solicit two prizes such as gift certificates.  Oxford Assaying may donate some gold.  The Alaska Mint will donate 30 coins for the detecting hunt, 40 $1.00 tokens and coin medals for the panning winners. Chicken Outing – motion was made by John Pakan and 2nd by Bill Bear to fund each rig $100.  Passed. Crow Creek Outing – There will be a Memorial Weekend outing at the Crow Creek Mine.  The Chapter will provide hot dogs and buns for a Sunday night potluck.  The mine will provide free camping to all GPAA members this summer.  Our Chapter members will also get free basic mining from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Dredging and detecting fees will be paid by members.  The Chapter will pay a fee of $1000 to Crow Creek Mine. Outdoor Week – Nine members helped the BLM provide this for 6th graders from all area schools.  Some of our members also help other panning stations.  Member Craig Casner brought the panning tubs and other equipment.  The Anchorage School District provided a lunch on our rainy Friday.

New Business – Conoco Phillips is hosting a family day July 16 on the Park Strip.  They will pay our Chapter $2000 for the salted sand bags and have the Chapter teach panning. Sign-up sheets for the June 2 and July 14th panning at the Golden Nugget RV Park and the July 16th Conoco event was circulated. Chris Crouch gave a report about the Rendzevous in Stanton.  She relayed several suggestion to promote GPAA membership.  Another useful idea was to have members leave an envelope with identification and medical info. In their vehicle in case of an emergency.  She brought prizes for our drawing and a new sluice mat to show.

Roger King made a motion to adjourn.  Motion passed and meeting was adjourned.
